The Austrian Academy of Sciences (OREA) seeks to employ a PhD student from mid-2017 for three years to undertake research on human pelvic morphology and the physical effects of childbirth. The PhD candidate will work on archaeologically recovered skeletal material dated from c. 3000 BC to AD 1900. The research is on the link between form and function in the skeleton, particularly in the evolution of bird beaks and skulls. The funding is not tied to specific question and new ideas are welcomed.
